David Berzonsky

Dave is a highly accomplished bassist, composer and teacher, whose recording and performance credits include a broad spectrum of styles, from west African traditional music to jazz, funk, acoustic folk and various types of Latin and Caribbean popular music. He has often been inspired by the sensual movements of dancers throughout the world. "I have always enjoyed composing dance music, but have never really gravitated towards any one specific style. It is my intention to write music that will inspire people to dance out the mythology of their dreamscape, wherever that leads."

Dave writes from a visionary place of poetic beauty. In his songs are images of the dreamer transforming the world through feats of imagination. "Accepting the world as it is has never been one of my strong suits. When faced with a situation, whether an artistic dilemma or a real world problem, I can usually bend reality a bit to accommodate my intention. And if reality won’t budge, I can always fall back on my imagination and my attitude towards the world, to shape things through song into spaces of great beauty. It is not enough to comment on the ugliness and cruelty in the world, nor to bicker with the perpetrators. We have to actually do things that make life more wonderful. And, you know, if that doesn’t work, we can always write a song that expresses the beauty of what the world could become, and then at least we have some vision to nudge into being."
